About the Service Complaints Ombudsman

The Service Complaints Ombudsman was established under the Armed Forces (Service Complaints and Financial Assistance) Act 2015. The role of the Service complaints Ombudsman is to provide independent and impartial scrutiny of the handling of Service complaints made by members of the UK Armed Forces

Our Aims

To ensure all Service men and women have confidence in the complaints system and are treated properly, by:

  • providing an alternative pathway to raise a Service complaint with the chain of command
  • holding the Services to account for fairness, effectiveness and efficiency in their operation of the complaints system
  • working with the Services and MOD to see that lessons are implemented swiftly and efficiently
  • accounting publicly to Ministers and Parliament
